Kansas City Championship Title Vacated, Tournament at Takeover IV August 13th

The Kansas City Championship was vacated at KCXW: Xtreme Heat in July when champ J.C. Thunder was disqualified in his match against "Kingpin" Angel Medina.  To decide a new champion, there will be a tournament of the top four contenders at KCXW: Takeover IV on August 13th, 2017.

In the Main Event match at KCXW: Xtreme Heat, Kansas City Champion J.C. Thunder put his title on the line against ECW legend “Kingpin” Angel Medina.  A cautious review of past footage will show that Thunder has often used below-board methods to retain his title.  But Medina was Thunder’s most-experienced, arguably craftiest challenger to date.  When an attempt was made to break the rules to turn the tide Thunder’s way, Medina spotted it – and so did the referee.  Just like that, an epic match over, and Medina won by disqualification.

In typical professional wrestling organizations, a win by disqualification does not lead to a title changing hands.  For decades, less-than-honorable champions have used this loophole to extend their reigns.  But KCXW is not a “typical” professional wrestling organization.  Buried in the bylaws of the KCXW rulebook is a decree that even KCXW President Jordan Smiley cannot work around:  if a champion is disqualified in a title defense, the title is vacated.  And so, after a grueling match for the record books, J.C. Thunder and “Kingpin” Angel Medina both went home empty-handed.

What happens to the Kansas City Champion title now that it has been vacated?  At Takeover IV on August 13th, there will be a four-man tournament to determine the new champion.  The Board of Xcellence and President Smiley have discussed and debated the names of the top four contenders, and they have been decided.  One of these men will be crowned the next Kansas City Champion at Alamo Drafthouse Kansas City.

J.C. Thunder

“Nature’s Fury” is furious indeed, now that he must enter the KCXW ring without a belt for the first time since February.  But he is still the biggest man in KCXW, and always a tough pin.

The Marksman

J.C. Thunder may be the biggest KCXW wrestler, but The Marksman is arguably the most unsettling.  His demeanor could be passed off as bravado if he didn’t have his technical skills and mind game mastery.

Corneilus Wyverstone

The man who has come closest to cleanly stripping the title from J.C. Thunder, the Prince of the Wyverstone Circus is riding high after his shocking victory over “Brutal” Bob Evans at KCXW: Kansas City Classic.

Hollis Giroux

The most unpredictable entrant in this tournament, Hollis Giroux brings both size and intensity to the ring.  If anyone is willing to do whatever it takes to go home with that title belt, it is Hollis Giroux.

Will J.C. Thunder regain the title?  Or will KCXW crown its second-ever Kansas City Champion?  And where is "Kingpin" Angel Medina?  Questions will be answered at KCXW: Takeover IV on August 13th!
